What? It's been almost a year since our last post?? Can't be!!! But it's true!!! NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
So it has been. Well, a friend of ours started this blog and I have had the urge lately to fire the thing back up again! So let's give it another go shall we?
A lot has happened in the past year around these parts and one of those things is we're still open!!! We have 2 1/2 years behind us and as business begins to slow a bit for the Winter time we put our focus into the year to come! It will probably have something to do with bicycles. HA! bicycles, Bicycles BICYCLES!!! That's what we do here on 436 Pennsylvania Avenue West. Build them, sell them, Fix them, restore them and ride them most every single day. It is just a way of life for us and we want everyone to realize that the bicycle can be a way of life for them too! It's NOT hard!! So as another day winds down here at the ol' shop... Welcome back!! Keep posted for gear info, apparel info, bike info, ride info and more. So enjoy your ride home this evening and have a good night!! ding ding! (that was a bicycle bell)

Oh, by the way, the days are pretty short now! As you have probably noticed. So get in here and get yourself a worthy headlight and a nice bright tail light!! Be safe my friends!

50 Degrees and Rainy, We'll take it.

Greetings all this is Josh,
I am one of the owners of Allegheny Cyclery, and I from time to time have nothing to say and thought I would share these things with you all if you care. Anyhow, today on my short, I mean short, ride into work. I had the thought of "Hmm its November 29th and its 50 degrees" now I know that winter is coming, I have no illusion its going to be like this all year, I even look forward to the snow, until the end of December, but after that if we could please have more days like this. Well Enjoy all..

Thanks Bicycling.com!

Bicycling.com has a little handy "What Should I Wear" web tool.

http://www.bicycling.com/whattowear

It helps give you an idea for what layers you might want depending on different riding situations; definitely worth checking out.

A cold commute by bicycle, followed by a warm cup of joe on a beautifull morning. I'll take it!

Rain-gear Games

So, I've been commuting by bicycle for about 8 years now and I LOVE it!!! I've saved thousands of dollars in fuel over that time and never had to figure out when to exercise as I take care of that pedaling 8 miles into work and 8 miles back home most every day!! It's great!!

Let me tell you though, when it's a beautiful warm sunny morning, getting up early in the AM and heading out on a bicycle is easy, BUT when you wake up to the sound rain on the roof and the weather comes on your alarm radio and lets you know it's 43 degrees outside... jumping in the truck sounds pretty darn good!! UNLESS!!! You can stay warm and dry of course! I have found that out over the years and the rain is no longer a threat to me. In fact, I enjoy it!

My clothing of choice for such days is a brand by the Name of Endura. I've been using the Endura Gridlock waterproof jacket and over trousers for the past couple months and have been caught in a handful of cloudbursts and remained dry! The Jacket is highly reflective, well vented and has plenty of pockets all over (inside and out) to keep all your carry alongs dry and a LED light strip across the back for a little more visibility once it gets dark out (which is happening earlier now) or to just flash on those dreary days. The over pants have reflective piping on the seems, a stretch waistband with an adjustable belt and are able to unzip about a foot up the leg or so to get a foot through with your shoe on if you would like. They also have Velcro strips lower on the legs to cinch them up so they don't get snagged in the chain or catch on your bottle cages!

Swing through the shop and check them out!! Mens and womens available in a choice of colors. Keep pedaling!!
